That’s amazing, you lived there 20 years ago! It must have been a different world back then. I lived in Shanghai for a year two years ago and had a lovely time but it was definitely challenging in a lot of ways. The food as always special though. Ah China is so hard for vegetarians, same here in Korea actually. It’s just really not part of the culture. I think the noodles are your best bet and they often do mushroom and green veggie dumplings (bao) which are amazing. I used to live off them.
